IT Systems Support Engineer


Full Time: 36.25 hours per week 

Salary: £29,300 - £32,958 per annum

Information Technology Services (ITS) is the central IT department for the University, serving and supporting almost 7000 users. We are on an evolving journey driving the first phase of our extensive digital transformation programme. We’re delivering both a large digital and Infrastructure programme, using leading technologies to create a more digitally connected University user experience at the heart of everything we do. This transformation will help the University for the Creative Arts deliver great services improving the experience for all. 

The Role
Our vision is for IT to be a valued strategic business partner, providing innovative services to our students and staff, this is your opportunity to develop your server, storage and virtualization skills within a large environment. As a Systems Support Engineer you will have the opportunity to support the IT infrastructure including our hyper-converged VMware estate and the opportunity to further develop your systems administration skills in both Microsoft Windows and Redhat Linux. 

Following the implementation of our new hyper-converged infrastructure transformation programme you will help drive and improve our systems and services across a diverse infrastructure, our campuses and help improve our student and staff experience. 

Skills and Experience
You will have extensive, relevant knowledge and experience of systems and best practice including: 

  • Demonstrable experience of managing, administrating and supporting anmenterprise infrastructure including VMware VSphere, vSAN, Windows Server 2008 – 2012R2 and Redhat Linux.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing, administrating and supporting technologies such as Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory Services IIS environments and MSSQL.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in an ITIL based environment with emphasis on incident, Problem and Change Management
  • You will be a self-motivated and dynamic individual who is able to challenge and influence others, develop and maintain collaborative working relations across IT and non IT departments;
  • High level, proven inter-personal and communication skills are essential
  • Be flexible to travel to the other UCA sites when required
