Head of Equality and Diversity

University of Derby - Equality, Diversity and Policy

Inspire, Innovate, Impact.

At the University of Derby, people are at the heart of everything we do. As a major, local employer we not only offer one of the region’s most competitive reward packages, but we are also constantly recognising and rewarding individual contribution, as well as helping to develop colleagues both personally and professionally. We take pride in being a really friendly, supportive and innovative workplace and we are genuinely committed to offering colleagues the opportunity to develop a fantastic, long-lasting career here with us.

We encourage applications from a diverse workforce who can help us achieve our desire to be the ambitious student’s natural choice for quality, support and achievement.

About the role

Challenging, interesting and constantly changing, the University of Derby is an extraordinary place to learn and incredibly rewarding place to work.

We want to ensure that Equality, Diversity and Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do and this is an integral part of our values and behaviours. Our new 4 year EDI strategy has been devised with this in mind. The foundations have been laid and we need someone who has the passion, drive and ability to build on this strategy and really embed diversity and inclusion into every aspect of the University’s work.

Our ambition is to attract and retain people from as wide a range of backgrounds as possible. You will be expected to deliver transformational change across all areas of the employee lifecycle, enabling practical steps to ensure that our staff profile reflects our student body and our local community. However, being a University, the role does not stop there but also covers diversity and inclusion for our students, ensuring that every student has access to the facilities and support they need to be able to succeed to the best of their ability.

You will have an up-to-date knowledge of legislation and best practice in the EDI area, have the ability to provide expert advice and guidance and be able to balance this against the business needs of the University.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an established Diversity and Inclusion professional to build upon this critical area within HR and really make a difference.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expect everyone who works for us to also share this commitment and to treat people with courtesy and respect.
