Research Fellow

University of York - Centre for Health Economics

Applications are invited for the post of Research Fellow at Grade 6. You will contribute to a range of applied and methodological projects under a programme of work being pursued by the Health Policy team in the Centre for Health Economics. You will contribute to the portfolio of research projects in health and mental health policy, including those on The Economics of Social and Health Care Research Unit (ESHCRU) programme which covers research into funding and resource flows in the social and health care systems; market analysis and system management; quality measurement; and productivity and efficiency analysis. In particular you will also contribute to work on mental health payment reforms. You will also help to develop new project proposals and related activities.

The contribution expected is described below:

  • To conduct research under the supervision of senior colleagues and to contribute to the production of research
  • To communicate the results of research to different groups through written reports and papers, presentations at conferences and other forums, and at workshops and other meetings
  • To assist in the identification and development of potential areas of research and the development of proposals for independent or collaborative research projects

A Master’s degree in economics, health economics or a relevant quantitative subject such as statistics or econometrics is required. A PhD in economics or a quantitative subject or equivalent experience is desirable. You must have the ability to plan and prioritise work in order to meet deadlines, including using initiative to develop research objectives and plan research programmes, to conduct individual and collaborative research projects as part of a team and you must have strong statistical/econometric skills, evidenced by competency in use of spreadsheets and statistical software packages such as Stata, SAS, SPSS, or R. Familiarity with managing, combining and analysing large and complex datasets is desirable. Knowledge of a range of relevant research techniques and methodologies and experience of project management is essential.

The post is available full-time although applications for flexible or part-time working (minimum of 0.8 FTE) will be considered.

Salary will be within the range £31,076 - £38,183 per annum (Grade 6).
