Apprentice Laboratory Technician

The School of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a lab technician apprentice to be based in their busy Centre for Condensed Matter and Material Physics (CCMMP) laboratories. The apprenticeship is a two year contract run in association with Kingston College.

The role will comprise of working at QMUL with day release at Kingston studying for a Subsidiary Diploma in applied Science at level 3. At QMUL you will receive on the job training in the CCMMP Laboratories and Cleanrooms.

The training will progress through learning how to use equipment and techniques in the glass/silicon sample preparation process. Using and maintaining general lab equipment and being responsible for procurement of general lab chemicals and also of their disposal. Providing support for experimental activities that take place in the labs and cleanroom.

As you progress you may be involved directly in collaborative research work and expected to travel within the UK and overseas.

The post is full time for 2 years. Starting September 2017. Starting salary will be in the range £17343 - £19105 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Post Requirements:

A keen interest in Science and a willingness to work hands on. Grade C or above at GCSE level in Maths, English and Science

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
