Part-Time Administrative Assistant (London-Based)

The British School at Athens

The British School at Athens (BSA) is the UK’s research hub in the humanities and social sciences in Greece and its wider Balkan, European, Mediterranean and Levantine contexts. It conducts, facilitates and promotes research of international excellence in all periods – from the Palaeolithic to the present – and across all humanities and social science disciplines, as well as offering targeted courses to develop the next generation of researchers and academics in those fields. The BSA is one of 7 British International Research Institutes (BIRIs) which receive funding through the British Academy and have offices there. We are now in search of a part-time (0.4 FTE) Administrative Assistant (formally known as the ‘London Secretary’) to be based in our London office and to work closely with staff based in Athens and London, including our Development Officer. 

You will be proactive and highly organised, working as a member of the BSA’s administrative team liaising with BSA staff in Athens and London across a broad range of activities, including handling calls and correspondence, organising appointment committees, meetings and events, maintaining records appropriately, and providing effective administrative support to the Development Officer, the Director, and other officers of the BSA. 

You will be capable of working both independently and as member of a team, combining administrative and customer service tasks in a flexible manner.  You will have at least a BA or BSc, ideally in a field of Hellenic Studies. Familiarity with donor management software (e.g. eTapestry) is desirable, but not essential. 

Salary will be £9,670 (0.4 FTE).  The post is available immediately and will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months.  The role will involve occasional travel in the UK and from time to time to Athens. Attendance at out of hours events is an occasional duty.
