Technician (Science)

Liverpool John Moores University

An opportunity has arisen for a Technician within the Faculty of Education, Health and Community, based at the IM Marsh Campus, Aigburth and reporting to the Senior Science Technician.

As part of an existing team you will provide first line support for staff and students, dealing with all matters relating to the provision of equipment for practical teaching sessions in a science laboratory environment. The technical teams are renowned for excellence of service which must be matched by any new team member with regard to individual skills, customer service, integrity and dependability.

You will be involved in setting up and maintaining science and laboratory equipment on a daily basis for teaching support. You will need to be confident to work under pressure in a room full of adult learners, setting up and also troubleshooting problems as they arise. It is not a desk bound role, but fast paced work, requiring you to be on your feet for much of the time. To that end and due to the nature of the work, you will need to be sufficiently capable of manual handling, operating scientific machinery, and working with heights.

Normal hours of work are 8:30am – 4:30pm Monday to Friday, with occasional evening/weekend work. You must be able to demonstrate an ability to be punctual with an excellent attendance record. You must have as a minimum HND/HNC or equivalent in a science subject and will need to show a level of practical experience in a laboratory environment (not as part of a course). Previous exposure in a teaching environment and laboratory work are the essential requirement. A working knowledge of the GCSE science curriculum would be desirable
