Senior Researcher in Information Systems

University of Oxford - Department of Computer Science

Wolfson Building, Parks Road, Oxford.

Fixed-term for up to 3 years

Grade 8: Salary £39,324 – £46,924 p.a. (note: post may be under-filled at grade 7: £31,076- £38,183 p.a.)

THIS IS A READVERTISEMENT. PREVIOUS APPLICANTS NEED NOT APPLY

We are pleased to announce the availability for a full-time Senior Researcher for up to 3 years. Researchers in all topics related to reasoning with connections to data semantics will be considered, with a preference towards researchers working on scalable systems for reasoning and query answering over large scale data sources; see, e.g., our RDFox project (http://www.cs.ox.ac.uk/isg/tools/RDFox/).

The project aims to push forward the capabilities of semantic technologies such as Ontology Based Data Access (OBDA), examining a number of directions such as distributed storage and reasoning, stream reasoning, integrating semantic and relational stores, and hybrid materialisation- and rewriting-based techniques. Researchers will have the opportunity to work with project partners at the SIRIUS centre at the University of Oslo, and will also be encouraged to collaborate with other SIRIUS partners (see: http://sirius-labs.no/).

See http://www.cs.ox.ac.uk/isg/krr/ for more information about the KRR research group and our various research projects.

As a researcher on this project, you will work on the development of RDFox and other semantic technologies such as Ontology Based Data Access (OBDA), extending them in various directions, including distributed storage and reasoning, steam reasoning, integrating semantic and relational stores, and hybrid materialisation- and rewriting-based techniques. You will work closely with the SIRIUS centre in Oslo, and will be encouraged to collaborate with other SIRIUS partners (see http://sirius-labs.no/ ) as well as with other ISG projects.

You should have a PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline, with post-qualification research experience. You should have experience in theoretical computer science, particularly logic and/or databases and the ability to manage own academic research and associated activities, and to independently plan and manage a research project, including a research budget. Experience in semantic technologies such as OWL and RDF is highly desirable.

Whilst the role is a grade 8 position, we would be willing to consider candidates with potential but less experience who are seeking a development opportunity, for which an initial appointment would be at grade 7 (£31,076 - £38,183 p.a.) with the responsibilities adjusted accordingly. This would be discussed with applicants at interview/appointment where appropriate.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Wednesday 30 August 2017.
