Research Associate (European Calculator – land/water/biodiversity)

Maximum starting salary £41,940 per annum

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to coordinate and manage the development of the Land/Water/Biodiversity work package of the EU Calculator project (EUcalc), a large European Union-funded research network project. The successful applicant will join Dr Woods’ Group in the Centre for Environmental Policy, based at the South Kensington Campus.

Our role in EUcalc is to develop the algorithms and supporting material for the land-focused sectors including organising expert consultation workshops and stakeholder engagement activities. We will contribute to project management, partner coordination, synthesising findings and preparing project reports. European travel is expected. 

You must have a PhD (or equivalent) in environmental economics, environmental engineering, environmental assessment (e.g. Life Cycle, systems dynamics), land-use, agronomy, forestry, with a strong science policy component or any energy related discipline. You must also have a broad grasp of agriculture-environment-bioeconomy issues and familiarity with economics and basic technological dimensions of energy systems. Experience of collection and analysis of energy and environmental data, working on collaborative projects, managing workshops and hosting meetings is highly desirable. Knowledge and practical experience of using programing languages, systems modelling and data management software such as python, C++, Java, html, Access, SQL, Stella, Knime is essential. Knowledge of the UK, EU and international land use and agriculture policy environments is also desirable.

You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to write clearly and succinctly for publication. You must have a creative approach to problem-solving, the ability to develop and apply new concepts, prioritise your work in response to deadlines and be able to work as part of a team, as well as independently. You must also be able to relate well to others and form positive relationships with a wide range of people.  

This is a full time, fixed-term post for up to 24 months with a possibility of an extension subject to funding availability.

Any candidate who has not been awarded their PhD, will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £32,380 - £34,040 per annum
