Research Associate

University of Sheffield - School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR)

Contract Type: Fixed term from 1 November 2017 to 31December 2019.
Working Pattern: Part time working 50%. Working pattern to be agreed.

Summary:

The Medical Care Research Unit (MCRU) requires a Research Associate to work in collaboration with health service researchers responsible for carrying out qualitative research alongside a randomized controlled trial of a new intervention to help adults with cystic fibrosis adhere to their medication (The ACtiF Programme). On a day to day basis this will include arranging interviews, undertaking face to face interviews, coding data, supporting analysis and writing publications.

The ACtiF Programme:

This is a five year programme funded by the National Institute of Health Research to develop and evaluate a new intervention to help adults with cystic fibrosis to adhere to their prescribed medication. The programme started in March 2015 and the team has already developed the intervention ‘CFHealthHub’ and piloted it in two centres. We are looking for a part time qualitative researcher to work alongside a qualitative researcher who has led the qualitative research on the programme throughout the development and early evaluation of the intervention. The next and final phase of the research is to test the intervention in a large randomized controlled trial in up to 20 cystic fibrosis centres around England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. A process evaluation will be undertaken alongside this trial consisting of quantitative and qualitative methods. Another qualitative researcher is required to arrange interviews with staff and people with cystic fibrosis, undertake face-to-face interviews around the UK, code data using NVivo, and support the analysis, report writing and publications. See http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/scharr/sections/hsr/mcru/actif

You will have a good honours degree in a Health or Social Science related discipline and experience of undertaking qualitative research beyond the small studies undertaken as part of obtaining an undergraduate or taught masters degree. You should also hold a Masters or PhD in an appropriate topic.

You will be based at the University of Sheffield, but will spend some time away from the office undertaking qualitative data collection. Therefore, the ability and willingness to travel is essential.

Closing date 4 September 2017.
