Counselling & Wellbeing Manager

University of Salford - Student Experience & Support

The University of Salford is a dynamic organisation whose vision is: “By pioneering exceptional industry partnerships we will lead the way in real-world experiences, preparing students for life.”

Student Experience & Support is part of the wider Directorate of Student and Academic Support (DSAS) which unites Library Services, Quality Enhancement Office, School Operations, and Student Administration into one co-operative and collegiate whole.

In March 2015 we introduced the innovative ‘askUS’ student-facing service comprising a range of support including:

  • Employability skills and careers guidance.
  • Money skills and funding advice.
  • Enterprise skills and volunteering.
  • Wellbeing (mental and emotional health) skills and support.
  • Visa and immigration advice.
  • Fees, awards, and bursaries.
  • Accommodation advice.
  • Support and advice for disabled students, care leavers, carers, LGBTQAI students.
  • General enquiries.

Building on the developments already implemented by our dynamic and creative Wellbeing team, we are seeking to continually improve our practice and the reach and range of our services.

We wish to recruit a Counselling & Wellbeing Manager to line manage the Counselling and Wellbeing team, ensuring a high quality, consistent wellbeing advice and counselling service for students and other stakeholders.

We are looking for an organised, committed, and enthusiastic individual with extensive experience in the field of counselling and wellbeing service delivery. You’ll be able to make decisions and work independently.

You will have experience of line managing a team of staff providing counselling services. Along with operational management of the service, you will provide counselling to stakeholders where required, and consultation to staff members worried about their students. You will have excellent communication and IT skills and be a committed team player.

You should be able to demonstrate empathy and an understanding of the needs of all students at the University. AskUS will operate on several University campuses and you will have to visit all locations as part of this role.

Please note that it is a condition of this post that you take part in student services work that may include weekend and evening working and beyond core hours and supporting the askUS opening hours of 8am-8pm.

This vacancy will close on the date specified at 11.59pm.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and are working towards developing an inclusive working environment celebrating the diversity of our University community.
