This project is suitable for a talented scientist with a strong grounding in EEG and transcranial electrical stimulation. The applicant will join a growing team of people working on neuroimaging and neuro-computational modelling based within the Division of Neuroscience and Experimental Psychology at the University of Manchester. This project is funded by the Medical Research Council as ‘pump-priming’ awards for dementia research to develop new activities and new science. The award aims to develop a more principled approach to the understanding of brain stimulation enabling the development of more effective methods to stimulate the brain to enhance and promote brain plasticity, potentially slowing the cognitive decline underpinning dementia. This aim will be achieved through the use of computational modelling to drive the optimisation of experimental paradigms to maximise the impact of electrical stimulation on brain plasticity.
