Early Stage Researcher in Compressive Learning

University of Edinburgh - School of Engineering

A PhD position is available to work with Professor Mike Davies and his team on the ERC Advanced grant project, C-SENSE (Exploiting Low Dimensional Models in Sensing, Computation and Processing). This project aims to make theoretical and algorithmic advances in the use of low dimensional data models for sensing, signal processing, and machine learning to reduce computational, storage, and acquisition costs.

The selected candidate will develop new machine learning algorithms that can process compressed data without losing its salient information. The project will explore some exciting new developments in kernel representations, sketching, and compressive learning.

Highly motivated, excellent candidates should ideally hold a valid Masters degree with a specialisation in machine learning and/or signal processing, and should be eligible for immediate admission on the PhD programme at the University of Edinburgh.

Successful candidates will enjoy a dynamic and inspiring environment, as part of Prof. Davies’ research group focusing on exploiting structure for signal processing and machine learning. The group is based in the internationally renowned Institute for Digital Communications (IDCOM) at the University of Edinburgh.

ERC Advanced Grants are awarded to top researchers in Europe to enable them to follow their best ideas and make a real difference in science and beyond.

This post is fixed-term for 3.5 years.

Salary range: £26,829 - £31,076
