The Centre for Enterprise ( is nationally recognised for its work with small and large firms as well as with social enterprises.

This is a unique opportunity to work with some of the best business and social entrepreneurs in the region and beyond. You will be working alongside a successful academic entrepreneurship team that use their research and knowledge in a commercially driven environment. In the Faculty of Business and Law, you will be based in the brand new Business School building in the heart of the knowledge corridor in central Manchester.


The Business Advisor role will play a pivotal role in the development of regional business ERDF funded growth programmes. These form part of the development of business support programmes for small and medium enterprises across Greater Manchester, Cheshire, and Warrington.

The successful candidate will identify and build relationships with appropriate internal and external contacts and agencies to facilitate the recruitment to programmes. As programmes will rely on being at the cutting edge of innovative practice and contracting from a wide range of suppliers, the constant development and renewal of networks will be pivotal to programme success.

Part of the new business development team, they will play a supporting role in the development of relationships with external organisations and be responsible for the process of collection of ERDF project outputs from programme participants including the completion of appropriate paperwork adhering to strict funding guidelines.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be able to systematically develop and sustain positive relationships with businesses to maximise engagement. They will be able to promote a cohesive and trusting culture and collaborating working within a team as well as being resilient and able to remain calm under pressure and to troubleshoot problems arising in programme promotion and delivery.

They will have a knowledge of best practice in supporting small enterprises with a business advisor qualification or equivalent experience and will contribute to ensuring our existing ERDF programmes, successfully complete on time and on target.
