Research Associate in High Performance Ductile Composite Technologies- HiPerDuCT

University of Bristol - Department of Aerospace Engineering

A postdoctoral researcher position is available in the Bristol Composites Institute (ACCIS) within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Bristol.

You will be working on the EPSRC funded Programme Grant ‘High Performance Ductile Composite Technology’ (HiPerDuCT) to realise a new generation of high performance fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) composites which overcome the key limitation of conventional composites: their inherent lack of ductility.

The successful development of ductile composite materials will lead to many new opportunities and will potentially revolutionise their application in areas previously deemed impractical or inappropriate. This project offers an exciting opportunity to be involved in this ground-breaking technology development.

You will carry out experimental assessment of novel FRP composite materials by designing, manufacturing and characterising composite materials with novel hybrid continuous fibre configurations under a range of different loading conditions. You will also work with industrial collaborators on applications of a novel overload sensor concept.

You will interact closely with and input to aligned projects (modelling and experimental) being undertaken both at Bristol and collaborating universities.

You will have a PhD in Engineering/Materials Science (or closely related discipline) and good experience of composite materials and their manufacture, testing and modelling.

This full time, fixed-term post is available from October 2017 (upon appointment), and will initially be funded for up to 9 months.

Informal enquiries can be made to: Professor Michael Wisnom
