Student Support and Sports Technician (Physiology & Performance Analysis Specialism)

To allow us to continue this philosophy, the School of Social and Life Sciences are looking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic individual in the role of Student Support and Sports Technician (Physiology & Performance Analysis Specialism), who will be integral in the continued development of the sport science and coaching science department. The department is extending its portfolio provision to include sport science, nutrition, health science, physical activity, coaching science and football addressing the contemporary issues relating to sport. The suitable candidate will be responsible for maintaining the physiology laboratory and actively assisting in the delivery physiological testing. Additionally the individual will contribute to technical support for performance analysis and supporting student learning within this portfolio. The suitable candidate will already possess an undergraduate degree but will be encouraged to register for a part-time MSc.

The main responsibilities of the role include working with academic staff and with students to create learning environments which include: the ability to set up equipment; to run physiological based experiments/procedures in a lab or applied field setting; supporting the use of performance analysis equipment and use of software in a classroom and applied setting; in addition to supporting work in a practical coaching setting. Successful individuals will be able to maintain physiology based equipment and lab space including health and safety procedures. Additionally, the individual will have experience working in other applied settings and be able to set up cameras and laptops in a performance analysis setting.  

Many of the studies delivered in sport rely on specialised computer packages to collect data or analyse data. These include Wingate software, gas analyser outputs, physical activity software, and performance analysis software and or analyse data (e.g., Survey Monkey), including statistical analysis packages (e.g., SPSS, excel). It is expected that the successful candidate will be familiar with similar programs, and other data handling systems would also be useful. Familiarity with the use of social networking sites for managing the student interface and Moodle for supplementing student support would also be welcome. Successful applicants will demonstrate the ability to manage and implement innovative approaches to enhancing student learning experience
