Post-Doctoral Research Assistant in Mass Spectrometry

University of Reading - Department of Chemistry

We are seeking an experienced postdoctoral researcher in mass spectrometry to work in liquid AP-(MA) LDI MS method development for biomolecular profiling applications. The project is funded by the BBSRC (BB/R002975/1) and aims to develop a rapid analysis workflow for biological fluids from farm animals based on modern MALDI MS, allowing for early and specific detection of agriculturally important diseases and conditions.

The work will include experimental design; biological sample collection and preparation; data acquisition, analysis and further mining; and optimisation and maintenance of instrumentation. The postholder will liaise with co-investigators, colleagues and companies in planning, managing and undertaking the day-to-day tasks of a demanding R&D project.

You will have:

  • A Science PhD or equivalent degree.
  • Extensive knowledge of mass spectrometry and ideally its application to animal research.
  • Relevant experience of using modern MS instrumentation with soft ionisation techniques.
  • A commitment to high quality research.
