Salary range: £36,800 - £44,220 per annum * (Maximum salary on appointment will be up to £39,800 per annum)

Fixed Term:  up to 18 months, starting 1 October 2017 or ASAP, full-time

The Grantham Institute and Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology are seeking to recruit a full time Research Associate for our MRC-Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) project entitled “Health in a changing climate: the dynamic challenge of snake bite in South Asia”. The post is within the Ecological Health Research Group led by Dr Kris Murray at Imperial College London.

The post holder will develop a coupled human-natural systems framework allowing description and projections of snake bite patterns and its impacts in Sri Lanka under global, social and environmental change scenarios. They will draw upon data and collaborations generated within the project focusing on snake bite epidemiology and geospatial risk mapping, venomous snake ecology and distribution modelling, land-use and land cover change modelling and human ecology.

You must have a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field and be able to demonstrate skills and experience relevant to the position (e.g., but not restricted to, ecology, epidemiology, socio-ecological systems modelling, geospatial modelling), including experience in applying quantitative and qualitative skills to dynamic socio-ecological systems. Familiarity with climate and/or land-use and/or socio-economic change scenario modelling is essential. You must demonstrate experience in developing or applying quantitative/spatial modelling techniques, along with a familiarity with, or strong interest in, applying above mentioned skills in an environmental and/or global health context. High level analytical skills and an ability to develop and apply new concepts is required. You must also demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deal with a wide range of people from different educational and cultural backgrounds.
