Associate Professor in Electrical Engineering

The role:

Ranked 5th in the UK for General Engineering in the Complete University Guide 2018, this dynamic department is an excellent place in which to pursue your academic interests while guiding our research activities and teaching our enthusiastic student body. Providing lectures and tutorials on Electrical Engineering modules, you will also supervise and support PhD students. Taking a lead in promoting interdisciplinary research with other researchers throughout the University, you will be tasked with pursuing projects in key areas such as our Future Energy Systems challenge, and you will develop national and international industry links for the benefit of the department and all students. Encouraged to take periods of research leave, you will further our reputation for innovative and world-class thinking.

You’ll need:

  • A broad knowledge of Electrical Engineering, with a good first degree and a PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • To be a Chartered Engineer, or working towards this.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: magnetic devices and smart systems, electrical machines, power electronics, and/or drive systems and control.
  • Evidence of internationally excellent research outputs, with the ability to secure research funding and a clear research plan.
  • Proof of experimental research, with particular evidence of working towards one of our key areas such as Future Energy Systems. More details of these research areas can be found here: https://www.dur.ac.uk/engineering/research/
  • Excellent teaching skills, supported by an HEA qualification and the ability to recruit and supervise PhD candidates.
  • Clear ideas about how your research can be applied in an engineering capacity, with current industrial links.
