Assistant Professor in Theoretical Particle Physics (Grade 8)

Ranked 5th in the Complete University Guide 2017, the Department of Mathematics promotes innovative research-led education to our outstanding students.  Pursuing your research interests in an area such as Quantum Field Theory, String Theory, Gravity or Cosmology and Solitons in Field Theory, you will publish world-leading research and work collaboratively with the research community to raise the endeavours of the Department and the Centre for Particle Theory. When teaching, you will tailor lectures, seminars and tutorials to your students, lead research groups and monitor their research outputs, ensuring they continue to flourish in their chosen studies.

You’ll need: 

  • A good first degree and a PhD in Mathematical and/ or Theoretical Particle Physics supported by some years of postdoctoral experience. 
  • Research excellence in the field of mathematical and theoretical particle physics, with a clear research plan and the ability to ensure any outputs make the desired impact. 
  • Solid communication skills including the ability to form beneficial working relationships with other departments and research facilities, and the confidence to secure funding via research project proposals.  
  • The ability to deliver a high standard of teaching with HEA fellowship (or be willing to achieve this status).
  • Enthusiasm for leading research groups, including supervising PhD students and supporting early career researchers.
