Lecturer in Sociology

Staffordshire University - School of Law, Policing & Forensics

Location:  Stoke campus

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and motivated candidates for a Lectureship in Sociology or Criminology.  The post will involve you joining our team to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in our Sociology and Criminology provisions, including our Transnational Organised Crime and our Sociology, Crime and Deviance courses.

We seek an individual with knowledge and experience of a range of sociological concepts and skills, with particular expertise in terrorism studies. You will have a commitment to delivering high-quality teaching, excellent communication skills and an ability to work effectively as part of a team of academic staff. In addition, you will be research active and be able to continue to develop your research portfolio in sociology and/or criminology. Applications from individuals with expertise in Terrorism studies would be particularly welcome.

Staffordshire University has ambitious plans, and this is a particularly exciting time to join the organisation as we embed our strategy to become `The Connected University’. With a presence across three main campus sites, we have recently invested over £40 million in campus transformation. At our main city campus in the heart of Stoke-on-Trent we are actively supporting the city’s bid to become City of Culture 2021 with the University embedded as its intellectual hub.  We continue to invest in our campus buildings and facilities with a focus on providing innovative, digitally led teaching spaces to enhance our students’ experience.

Sociology and Criminology are a constituent of the School of Law, Policing and Forensics, a unique combination of disciplines that are ideally placed to respond to today’s justice system.  You will work closely with colleagues from academic disciplines including law, forensic science and investigation, and policing and with others across the wider university community.
