Research Technician

Queen Mary University of London - William Harvey Research Institute - Centre for Experimental Medicine & Rheumatology

We seek a Research Technician with experience of in vivo biological research with particular reference to inflammatory models & models of inflammatory joint disease. The candidate must hold a Home Office Personal Licence and will contribute to mandatory record-keeping requirements, and the delivery of high-quality research, under the supervision of the Head of Centre & Project Manager in order to realise the research objectives of the Centre for Experimental Medicine & Rheumatology (EMR). The candidate will also work as part of a core team of staff within EMR under the direction of the Laboratory Manager providing support to the various academic/collaborative studies & clinical trials on-going in the centre.

We seek a Research Technician to join a 60 strong research team of scientists, clinicians and clinical trial staff dedicated to Inflammation and Rheumatology Research at the Centre for Experimental Medicine & Rheumatology (EMR), Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London, Charterhouse Square, EC1, led by Professor Costantino Pitzalis. EMR opened in May 2007 and the Centre is focused on the development of innovative therapeutic and diagnostic approaches to inflammatory and degenerative arthropathies, particularly rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. The Centre offers refurbished laboratories, cutting edge facilities and is located in the heart of the City of London in close proximity to the Barbican Arts and Music Centre.

Candidates should have an undergraduate degree (B.Sc. /B.S) in a relevant subject or equivalent qualification. Main duties of the position will include:-

  1. Facilitation of in vivo biological research in inflammatory models & inflammatory joint disease and the delivery of high-quality research.
  2. Collection, processing, storage & databasing of human synovial tissue samples & biospecimens.
  3. Contributing to the execution of quality assurance assessments/audits, collecting & analysing data.
  4. Histological/Immunohistochemical characterisation & imaging of tissues.
  5. Routine molecular biology sample preparation, profiling, data collection & data analysis.

The post is a Grade-3 full time position on a 2-year contract. The salary will be in the range of £26,717 - £32,956 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, final salary pension scheme, interest-free season ticket loan and family-friendly working.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
