Overview Of Role

Reporting to the Director of Operations, we are seeking to recruit a Head of Legal with the responsibility of providing oversight for legal matters and assisting with Risk Management across the institute.

As Head of Legal you will have significant interaction with senior management in the development and initiation of strategic and legal policy matters and associated documentation.  Managing and supporting a small team you will also take a hand-on and practical approach to the provision of a wide range of legal services, including the legal aspects of domestic, EU and international funding and associated agreements.  

The ideal candidate will be from a research/research related or academic organisation, holds a law degree and possesses demonstrable and successful working knowledge and experience of providing advice on a variety of contractual, intellectual property and other legal issues.

Excellent communication skills including the ability to explain complex issues with clarity, leadership qualities and the ability to work proactively and independently are prerequisites.  You will be pragmatic and able to deal with projects and initiatives of varying complexity simultaneously, mitigating risks and with a broad institute-wide perspective.  You will also be politically astute at all levels and be able to network widely with colleagues within the Institute and an effective people manager with previous experience in leading and motivating a small team.
