Full Time, Fixed Term - Academic

The School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics, within the Faculty of Technology, Design and Environment, are recruiting for a Lecturer in Thermodynamics and Dynamics with an honours degree and either significant industrial experience or post-graduate degree, preferably PhD, in Thermodynamics or Dynamics.

You will be responsible to:

  • Teach students at undergraduate and postgraduate level, supervise students' projects and dissertations, mark and assess students' work and invigilate where necessary, including through distance or open learning programmes, using appropriate instruction methods such as lectures, tutorials, seminars and other formal pedagogic work (including virtual learning environments).
  • Undertake curriculum development work including identification of student requirements, planning, development and evaluation of courses and course materials, and to supervise course provision.
  • Manage and administer education processes, including the administration and management of education training programmes and public relations work.
  • Participate in the administrative processes of the institution including committees.
  • Develop an active programme of research and produce a steady stream of high quality refereed journal publications and outputs commensurate with entry in the Brookes submission to the Research Excellence Framework (REF).
  • Undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required by the University having regard to the general principles used in the above descriptions.

You should have:

  • First honours degree and significant experience in Thermodynamics and Dynamics appropriate industrial experience or a post-graduate degree.
  • Appropriate expertise and experience in the subject area through employment or a PhD, or studying towards a PhD in a relevant subject.
  • Teaching in HE qualification or career plans to achieve this.
  • Demonstrable research profile and/or relevant professional / industrial experience.
  • Ability to teach at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels and supervise student projects.
  • Recent industry or equivalent academic experience preferably related to the department's research themes: Advanced Engines, Propulsion and Vehicles; or Simulation, Modelling and Systems Integration.
