The School wishes to invite a Lecturer in Modern British and/or European History with expertise in the period before 1900, commencing January 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. You will be required to offer research-led teaching in the field of Modern British and/or European History (before 1900) at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; this will include contributions to team-taught History modules (undergraduate and MA). You will also be expected to take on a share of administrative tasks. Suitable candidates with any research and teaching specialism in Modern British and/or European History (before 1900) will be seriously considered.

You must have a PhD in a relevant field awarded by time of appointment and clearly developed research plans for excellent publications that will constitute a significant contribution to the next Research Excellence Framework (REF). You must have experience of undergraduate teaching and the ability to respond enthusiastically and positively to students.

We welcome applications from specialists who will enhance or complement the existing research and teaching interests of other Historians in the School, and particularly those which fall under one or more of the School's following Strategic Research Themes: Life Cycles, Bodies, Health and Disease; Conflict and Revolution; Ideas and Beliefs; Empires and After; Labour and Society.
