Credit Control Administrator

University of the West of England, Bristol - Finance Department

We are seeking to appoint an Experienced Credit Controller: you would work as part of a busy team, whose primary aim is to recover University Debts from students, sponsors, Student Finance England, and commercial debt. You will be customer focused and must possess excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with sensitive debt recovery. In addition you will need to have a flexible working approach and have the ability to adapt to a changing environment

The services provided by the Financial Services area of the university are an essential driving force in delivering the University’s 2020 strategy, which includes an ambitious five-year, £250m investment programme in staff, students, estate, and IT infrastructure. It’s a key aspect of our crucial wider role in helping the University realise best value in all activities and in achieving long-term sustainability through strong financial leadership and sound governance.

Our team of around 100 professionals has a wide-ranging remit and representation on the University’s Directorate, which is a critical component of the senior management framework. Our input has a fundamental impact on shaping and driving the University’s vision, through the specialist advice and guidance we are able to offer, and in the day-today effectiveness of the financial processes and controls we put in place and manage. In all our work, we take great pride in providing a reliable, efficient, and friendly service, underpinned by a commitment to the highest professional standards.

On a strategic level, we plan, manage, and monitor financial planning processes and are responsible for creating, implementing, and scrutinising targets to ensure the University maintains a robust operational platform. Central to this is our focus on continually enhancing the quality of experience for students and staff through strategic planning, resource allocation, and delivery of investments in academic faculties and professional services. We also provide regular financial and management reporting services to support senior managers across the University, as well as being a hub for business intelligence.

On an operational level, we are responsible for the efficient processing of financial transactions, payments, financial accounting, and the production of financial statements, reports, and returns to meet regulatory requirements. Through our Planning and Business Intelligence team, we administer the academic workload allocations and provide a range of analytical services and management information including key performance indicators to senior management, faculties, professional services, and external organisation. In addition, our team provides professional procurement support for all the University’s non-pay expenditure, consistently applying best practice to optimise the value of purchases throughout the organisation.
