Post-Doctoral Researcher Position On Compound Semiconductor Fabrication & Design

Thermophotonic heat transfer/device design and fabrication/semiconductor electrochemistry

We are looking for a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher to work on an ERC-funded research  project focusing on demonstrating thermophotonic energy transfer and electroluminescent cooling in III-V compound semiconductors.

Your work will mainly focus on developing, analysing and designing coupled III-V light emitter and solar cells in collaboration with a team of theoreticians and experimentalists aiming to demonstrate the next break-throughs in solid state cooling and energy conversion.

Our wish list for the selected candidate consists of:

  • Experience on fabricating and processing compound semiconductor light emitting/solar cells devices and thin-film devices (emphasis on GaAs and other III-V materials)
  • Team working skills, sociable character and good command of English
  • Aptitude for creative, open minded and independent thinking
  • Previous experience on the photoelectrochemistry of compound semiconductors and materials or device modeling experience is also considered a significant advantage
  • Doctor's degree on a suitable research field

Essentially we'd like to find an ambitious and highly motivated researcher wanting to contribute to the development of high efficiency compound semiconductor devices and their fabrication and design. You will be working in a research team of 5-7 people, closely connected to other research groups  working in the Micronova clean room facilities. Our research aims e.g.  at harnessing various energy conversion phenomena enabled by semiconductors, and in particular at  demonstrating electroluminescent cooling using high quality semiconductor devices fully integrated within a semiconductor cavity, which strongly decreases the losses associated with light extraction.

The research takes place at Aalto University and Micronova, located at Espoo, Finland, offering a great environment both for research and recreation. Micronova is the largest clean room facility in the Nordic countries and Finland/Helsinki offers a clean, safe and naturally beautiful environment having several world's best country/city nominations over the past several years, as well as four distinct seasons. We also have vidid national collaboration with other Aalto groups and Optoelectronics research centre (ORC) at Tampere University of Technology as well as several international groups.

The position is planned for 1+2+ years and the salary level is based on the university policies, typically setting the  salary of early stage post-doctoral researchers to ~3.6 k€/month. Start date can be as soon as possible.
