Research Associate in Critical Oil and Air System Technologies

Contract Type: This post is fixed-term with a start date as soon as possible and ending of 31st December 2019.
Location: Low Carbon Combustion Centre, Beighton, Sheffield
Salary: Grade 7
             £30,688 - £38,833 per annum. Potential to progress to £42,418 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution.

We have a great opportunity in the Department of Mechanical Engineering for a Research Associate who has passion in Thermo-fluids engineering to come and join the research team at the Low Carbon Combustion centre (LCCC). The position is part of the Critical Oil and Air System Technologies (COAST) research project, funded by the Innovate UK ATI programme.

The Research Associate will work closely with a major UK aircraft engine manufacturer to investigate the way lubricant behaves in the oil system of an in service aircraft engine will work. You will provide evidence of knowledge and experience relevant to the project, including an understanding of lubricant and seal degradation processes and mechanisms in liquid autoxidation and support delivery of the project aims.

The successful applicant will be required to develop and implement a 1-D model and carry our small scale assessments of lubricant degradation to support the activity. You will communicate regularly with project partners and demonstrate experience of working with industry and be able to communicate effective results to both academic and industrial audiences. You will be expected to prepare reports and papers for publication in journals and presentations at conferences. You will lead the team working directly on the facility on a day to day basis and contribute to future research proposals and the further development of the research centre.

You should have completed, or be about to complete, a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
