The Project

The University of Essex in partnership with Objective Computing Ltd offers an exciting opportunity to embed NLP capability within the company and drive the creation of two distinct products. This post is fixed term for 24 months and is based at the Objective Computing offices in Great Baddow, Essex.

Please note this role is subject to funding approval (funding outcome expected early November 2017).

Duties of the post

The duties of the post will include:

  • Establishing a Natural Language Processing capability within Objective Computing.
  • Creating/manipulating suitable data sets for the development of two standalone NLP products.
  • Productising and embedding Natural Language Processing tooling:
    o To include prototyping 
    o Building query analyser
  • Development of an appropriate Strategy Engine.
  • Integrating new NLP functions into a suite of data analytics products.
  • Assessing feasibility of all technical road maps, liaising with Academic team.
  • Embedding knowledge of NLP within the company.

Key Requirements

The post holder must have:

  • MSc in Advanced Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, Semantics or Data Science.
  • Good theoretical and applied knowledge in a range of statistical and computational techniques, particularly Natural Language Processing (ideally both analysis and generation), semantic information extraction, classification methods and/or machine learning and data visualisation.
  • Experience of working both with structured and unstructured data.
  • Very good knowledge and experience of high level programming languages (including Python or Java).
  • Knowledge and experience of working with databases (preferably SQL Server).
