STFC is a delivery partner for the Data Analytics Facility for National Infrastructure (DAFNI), one of the three strands of UKCRIC with an investment of £8M. DAFNI is led by the University of Oxford and is governed by eleven leading research universities and STFC.

About The Role

This is a full-stack software engineering role that will involve in all phases of DAFNI construction, from software requirement gathering, design, implementation, to validation. This project uses agile software development, testing and deployment methodologies to encourage agile response to change and request. It also uses a data-driven approach to evaluate and validate the entire software engineering processes, from requirement, design, through to software development, testing and deployment, to user and community engagement.

The role will reside within the Visual Analytics and Imaging Systems (VAIS) group, Scientific Computing Department of STFC. It will involve working extensively across several groups involved in DAFNI and with partnering institutions and organisations.

You will be appointed at either Band D or Band E of STFC’s staffing hierarchy, depending on the strength of your skills, experience and qualifications.

You will be required to support data/model hosting, migration and co-development activities. For the Band E role you will also be required to lead the development of at least one key section of the platform, e.g. data or system model integration, data ingest and data/model inventory, real-time stream/batch processing, platform API, data analytics, visualisation and lead, develop and manage a small technical team.

You will also contribute to project events and conferences as and when required by the project leadership team.

About You

It is essential that you have an undergraduate degree in Science and Engineering subjects or relevant experience in computing. A Masters or PhD in Computing, Informatics, Geospatial data analysis or Environmental Science is desirable.

You will have experience in a variety of software engineering processes and experience of modern programming languages, e.g. Python, Java, C++, C#. To be considered for the Band E role you must also have experience of contributing to a collaborative software development project.

You must also be available for occasional UK and overseas travel.
