Fixed-Term appointment until December 2018.

We are looking for a Technician to work in the Dynamics Group in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Imperial College London. Dynamics spans the broad field of mechanical vibration, particularly nonlinear dynamics of aero engines. You will be working with academics, research students, and research staff within the Dynamics Group, and also assist undergraduates in their project work. You will provide and maintain a professional research laboratory service, enabling the pursuit of and contributing to experimental research in Dynamics, and ensuring the safe and effective working of the Dynamics and Vibration Laboratory.

The primary function is to provide support for about twenty Dynamics research students and staff in their research projects, including instruction and advice in the use of laboratory equipment; develop test rig designs, based on predefined research requirements; develop 3D CAD models and supervise their manufacture; ensuring provision of general consumables and helping maintain a safe research environment. You will also be required to organise and arrange the periodic maintenance and calibration of the laboratory and test equipment in order to maintain experimental quality.

You should be educated to a minimum of BTEC/HNC standard or equivalent in mechanical engineering, and have experience of laboratory testing methods and test equipment instrumentation, including excitation and sensor systems and the control software, to a graduate level of knowledge.

You should also be enthusiastic, well able to relate to a dynamic and multicultural group of researchers, and able to manage and prioritise the varying requirement of a diverse research group. Industrial experience would also be beneficial.
