Research Assistant/Associate Position in Robotics and Machine Vision

Fixed Term up to 28th February 2019, to as soon as possible

Research Assistant salary: £32,380 to £34,040 per annum

Research Associate salary: £36,800 to £44,220 per annum

(Maximum salary on appointment will be £43,050 per annum)

The Department of Computing is a leading department of Computer Science among UK Universities, and has consistently been awarded the highest research rating from the Higher Education Funding Council. The Hamlyn Centre is dedicated to developing safe, effective and accessible imaging, sensing and robotics technologies that can reshape the future of healthcare.

We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant/Associate to Internet of Things (IoT) Security and Pervasive Sensing Technologies for developing novel approaches to address security and privacy issues in the new generation of wearable and implantable healthcare devices.

The vacancy is for the IoT Security for Health Care (SeNTH plus) project which is one of the strategic research projects of the EPSRC PETRAS IoT research Hub. The project involves the development of autonomic security approaches for miniaturised sensors, and the deployment of the new security mechanisms in clinical settings to validate its potential value and immunity against potential threats.

We are looking for outstanding applicants in any of the following areas of research:

  • Internet of Things (IoT) and pervasive sensing;
  • Network security and data privacy;
  • Wearable/implantable sensor design;
  • Machine learning.

At the Research Assistant level you must have a Masters degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Computing, Electronic Engineering, Physics, Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline.  For a Research Associate position you must have a PhD degree (or equivalent) in related disciplines. You will need to have considerable experience in interdisciplinary research and working for large integrated development projects.

Applicants with strong experience and a proven track record in one or more of the above research areas are encouraged to apply. A high level of analytical and computing skills is required.  Preference will be given to applicants with a proven research record and publications in relevant areas. Applicants must be fluent in English.  The position is based at either the South Kensington campus or St Mary’s campus laboratories of the Hamlyn Centre.
