Admissions and Academic Assistant

The Admissions and Academic Assistant will report to the Academic Administrator and is responsible for the accurate processing of the day-to-day administration for admissions and academic matters. St Cross College admits around 230 new students each year and the post holder deals with over 400 applications. The post holder is required to process all applications for admission to the College using the eVision system and CHIPS (the in-house database) from start to completion.  The role will involve daily contact with both prospective and current student members of the College, answering queries and assisting with requests for documentation.

The post holder is required to have the ability to organise resources and prioritise activities within a general schedule. He/she will compose straightforward correspondence and manipulate and present routine data or information for analysis by others. Tasks may include: dealing with straightforward correspondence, creating documents and presentations for others, organising small events and activities, and writing new straightforward office procedures.

The post is on the University’s Support Grade scale 4 and entails a 36.5-hour working week. The leave-taking year runs from 1 October to 30 September. The holiday entitlement is 30 days per year, plus 8 Public Holidays. It will not normally be possible to take holiday during University term-time and during the peak summer Admissions period, although occasional days will be permissible. Holidays must be scheduled with the prior permission of the Academic Administrator and the Senior Tutor. Free lunches are provided when the College kitchen is open. A University pension scheme is available.
