The Department of Sociology is one of the founding departments of the University of Essex and offers a stimulating and supportive environment for the pursuit of teaching and research.  It is currently ranked 27 in the QS World Rankings and has been in the top ten for the quality of its research in all the research assessment exercises since 1986. We wish to appoint a Lecturer in Criminology to strengthen our research and teaching in this field. Applicants are invited from all areas of Criminology and we are particularly interested in candidates with an expertise in ‘Green Criminology’ and global environmental justice and the anthropology of crime.

The Role and Duties
The post-holder is expected to conduct research and teaching in Criminology at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. They will also supervise, support and motivate undergraduate projects, MA, and PhD dissertations.

Additional duties will include submission of high calibre research grant applications; participation in Departmental meetings, seminars and workshops; fulfilment of assessment and examination duties; and administrative duties, which might include student recruitment and sitting on Departmental committees and Boards of Examiners.

Qualifications and Skills required
The successful candidate will have obtained a PhD in Criminology, Sociology or an allied field or be in the final stages of completion of your studies.

You will be required to provide evidence of a research agenda with high quality research and publication at the highest levels; teaching experience in Criminology or an allied field at undergraduate level; demonstrable potential to generate external funding; and demonstrable evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes.

The anticipated start date of this post is September 2018.
