Graduate Development Engineer (KTP with Wrekin Products Ltd)

This KTP project offers a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious graduate to launch a career in industry with the support of company and academic mentors. Wrekin Products Ltd joined forces with the University of Wolverhampton on this KTP project to investigate and implement innovations in the modular design and efficient manufacture of fabricated steel access covers.

Wrekin Products is a leading designer, manufacturer and distributor of products for civil engineering applications. The company has experienced rapid growth in the last 5 years and is now the largest UK supplier in two of its three product areas; Highway Ironwork and Geotextiles. Wrekin is now seeking engineering support to drive the design, development and production of fabricated Steel Access Covers to deliver a market leading position in this sector.

You will be responsible for project managing this programme of work, bringing your engineering, material and manufacturing knowledge to the new product development process. You must have experience of using both CAD and FEA software to design and optimise new products.

You should have experience of project management and be able to demonstrate knowledge of manufacturing processes. Experience of employing linear programming would be advantageous.

We seek a minimum BSc (Hons) 2:1 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering/Manufacturing or closely related subjects. You must be able to demonstrate practically your knowledge of CAD software (ideally SolidWorks).

You should be confident, enthusiastic and capable of working autonomously as well as in a team and be able to interact at all levels within industry with an inquisitive and innovative approach. Good communication skills are essential as is a flexible working approach and strict time management. A positive attitude and pride in your work, showing attention to detail and quality control are essential. Ability to balance technical issues with commercial constraints and demonstrate abstract thinking skills are also key requirements for this role.

To support your commitment to continuous self-development you will have a generous personal development budget in addition to KTP Management Training. You will be employed by The University of Wolverhampton and will be based at Wrekin Products Ltd in Lichfield, Staffordshire. You must be willing and able to travel independently both within the UK and overseas (primarily Turkey, China and India) to support the project aims.
