Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Coherent X-ray Diffraction Microscopy

We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate in Coherent X-ray Diffraction Microscopy to join the Hofmann group at the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford. The post is funded by the European Research Council and is fixed-term with a maximum duration of 3 years.

The aim is to use Bragg Coherent X-ray Diffraction (BCXD) techniques to probe the complex lattice distortions associated with crystal defects. The successful applicant will develop new BCXD approaches that make it possible to study highly defected and extended samples. S/he will use these techniques to explore the complex lattice distortions associated with atomic scale crystal defects, shedding lights on how defect structures form, self-organise and interact. In-operando experiments will be used to clarify how defects respond to external stimuli. S/he will also more generally support and contribute to X-ray diffraction work in the Hofmann group.

Applicants should hold/be near completion of a PhD, have experience of carrying out coherent X-ray diffraction experiments at synchrotron facilities, and have a proven ability to develop algorithms to analyse coherent X-ray diffraction data. A strong publication record, excellent communication skills, self-motivation and a willingness to travel for experiments abroad are also essential.
