Main responsibilities
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the area of random matrix theory. The successful applicant will work on a joint research project of Professors Gernot Akemann and Friedrich Götze, preferably on recent developments in beta-ensembles, non-Hermitian random matrices and products thereof, or related areas. The position is funded by the German Research Council DFG as part of the Collaborative Research Centre CRC 1283 "Taming uncertainty and profiting from randomness and low regularity in analysis, stochastics and their applications", with participating Faculties of Mathematics, Physics, Technology as well as the Center for Mathematical Economics. The groups of Mathematical Physics (Akemann) and of Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics (Götze) enjoy a lively joint programme of research seminars, workshops and summer schools (85 %)

  • Participate in joint research projects and discussions in the B5 project, and contribute to events such as project-oriented workshops (5 %)
  • Contribute to the main topics of discussion and research in the CRC (5 %).
  • Assist in planning and organizing CRC events (5 %)

Applicant’s Profile
The successful candidate is expected to have:

  • Doctoral degree in Mathematical physics or Mathematics
  • thorough background in research fields related to the project
  • ability to communicate and to work in a team
  • good knowledge of English

Salary will be paid according to Remuneration level 13 of the Wage Agreement for Public Service in the Federal States (TV-L). As stipulated in §2 (1) paragraph 2 of the WissZeitVG (fixed-term employment), the contract will end on February 28, 2020. In accordance with the provisions of the WissZeitVG and the Agreement on Satisfactory Conditions of Employment, the length of contract may differ in individual cases. The position is advertised as a 100 % full-time employment. In individual cases, this percentage may be reduced on request, as long as this does not conflict with official requirements.
