A Post-Doctoral Research Associate position is available for 9 months from 1St October onwards, working in the laboratory of Professor Paul Bishop. You will undertake research, Funded by Fight for Sight, into the molecular pathology of age-related macular degeneration; the commonest cause of sight loss in the UK. This condition has a strong genetic basis, but whilst a number of genetic variants that modify AMD risk have been identified, their downstream consequences at an RNA and protein level are poorly understood. Therefore, the project will involve analysing donor eye tissue and cells at a transcriptomic and proteomic level and correlates findings with genotype. We are looking for applicants with a strong background in transcriptomic (e.g. RNA-Seq) and/or proteomic experiments and using bioinformatics tools to analyse the resultant datasets.
