NIHR Lecturer (Clinical) in Paediatrics

University of Liverpool - Institute of Translational Medicine

Faculty of Health and Life Sciences

This post provides an exciting opportunity for an individual with relevant research experience, wishing to pursue a clinical academic career in Paediatrics, to join an expanding research programme in Child Health, whilst continuing clinical training at Specialty Registrar level. You should have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in a relevant area with clinical Paediatric experience at Specialty Registrar level and able to demonstrate outstanding potential for development as a clinical academic.

The University of Liverpool has an excellent international track record of medical research for children in partnership with the new Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. The NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer will be based in the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health, located in the Institute of Translational Medicine or the Harris-Wellbeing Preterm Birth Research Centre at Liverpool Women’s Hospital. Child Health is located in the new £25 million ‘Institute in the Park’ on the site of Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and at Liverpool Women’s Hospital. This unique opportunity allows us to make a major step-change in developing an outstanding new Research, Innovation and Education Facility alongside the new hospital. Within the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health, there is a flourishing research environment, with an emphasis on the career development of young researchers. Research interests range from translational basic science research (clinical characterisation, immunopathology and therapeutics for severe respiratory viral infections in children, role of the innate and adaptive immunity in paediatric autoimmune disease, mechanisms of disease in severe bacterial infection), pharmacogenomics of adverse drug reactions in children, pharmacokinetics, pharmacovigilance, clinical trials and systematic reviews.

The post is available for 4 years or until CCT, whichever is sooner. Applicants must have been awarded their PhD by the interview date and must be in a position to take up the post before the 31 March 2018.
