Fixed-Term Lectureship in Integrated Electronics of Graphene and Related Materials

University of Cambridge - Cambridge Graphene Centre

The mission of the Cambridge Graphene Centre (CGC) is to investigate the science and technology of graphene, carbon allotropes, layered crystals and hybrid materials. The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Graphene Technology aims to development people able to stimulate the sustainability of engineering research and commercialisation of graphene and related materials across a variety of sectors. The CDT works closely with industry to ensure that successful students are properly equipped to follow careers in both industry and academia. Students enrolled with the CDT take a one year course of assessed research projects and taught modules, with satisfactory completion leading to the award of the Master of Research (MRes) degree. Successful students then undertake a three year research project with successful completion leading to the award of a PhD.

We wish to appoint a Fixed-Term Lecturer in the area of Electronic and Optoelectronic Devices Based on Graphene, Related Layered Materials and Hybrid Systems (GRMs) to complement and strengthen current teaching and research activities of the CGC and the CDT in Graphene Technology. The role-holder will be appointed to the position of Director of the Master of Research in Graphene Technology.

The successful candidate will have a proven record of scholarship, as shown by a record of world-leading publications, invited talks and seminars in major international conferences, as well as invited seminars in Universities, Companies and research centres.

The successful candidate will be assigned to Division B (Electrical Engineering). The role mainly concerns teaching and research. Research is expected to account for 40% of the time, whereas teaching and CDT administration is expected to account for 60%. The percentage of research could increase once the running of the MRes is optimized, to the satisfaction of the CDT Director and CDT Management Group, with the research activity expected to account for 60% and teaching and administration for 40%.  A major requirement during the first year will be to prepare the application for the CDT Renewal.

For teaching, responsibilities include taking the role of Director of the Master of Research of the CDT in Graphene Technology, with all related teaching and administration responsibilities. The successful candidate will be expected to create and teach at least one CDT graduate level module. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of undergraduate and graduate teaching and will contribute to teaching within the Electronic and Photonic Materials and Devices areas throughout the four-year Engineering Tripos.

The successful candidate will be based in the Cambridge Graphene Centre.
