We are currently offering fully-funded studentship commencing February 2018.  Applications are invited from UK, EU and international students for full time, 3-year study on the following PhD topics. We strongly recommend that you contact Petr Knoth (petr.knoth@open.ac.uk) to discuss your interest prior to writing your proposal.

Your proposal is to be based on the following topic:-

Web-scale research analytics for identifying high performance and trends: data-driven approaches to scientometrics (1 position available – supported by JISC). This topic will look into new forms of research assessment analysis based on textual data in research publications. It is expected that the PhD will go further into analysing the propagation of facts through research literature forming a research network. We expect the applicant to work on the intersection of text analysis, social networking and general data mining/analysis.

You will have a first or upper second class degree from a UK university or equivalent and ideally a relevant Master’s degree. Unless from a majority English-speaking country, non-EEA applicants will require an IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6 in each element of Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing. IELTS Certificates are valid for a period of 2-years. All applications are assessed as to their quality, the fit with The Open University research priorities and the availability of supervisors in the relevant field.

Deadline: Applicants will be interviewed as soon as possible after they formally apply. The studentship is available until it is filled.

Closing date: 17:00 on 17 November 2017
