Deep Science Ventures

The Role

  • Take part in a 6-month science venture building programme with the intent of starting your own company
  • Get £50k investment from DSV to start your own science start-up
  • Work with 30 multidisciplinary scientists / engineers and a team of business mentors to identify critical problems (in industries such as healthcare, food and agriculture, manufacturing, transport, pharma, clean energy, new materials, etc.) with a substantial market opportunity

Funding

  • £1,250 stipend for the first 3 months
  • £50,000 investment for a 10% equity stake into your company after the first 3 months. We also follow with an additional £50k convertible note into the most promising teams. 

DSV Founder profiles

Education

  • At least a Masters, preference for PhD (in 3rd year or > only) or Postdoc from a top university in EU or US

In one or more fields relating to STEM (science, engineering, technology, mathematics or medicine)

Experience

  • Currently in final year of Masters/PhD/Postdoc (awards and/or published papers are a plus)
  • Or working at a fast-growing SME in science or tech space > 2 years
  • Or working at respected organisation in science / engineering space > 2 years (e.g. J&J, GSK) in technical or strategic role rather than marketing, finance etc.
  • Or working at a top or boutique management consultancy for >1 and
  • Or engineering role in a bank only if paired with other interests / awards.Some sort of Founder experience in the past is good

Skills

Can demonstrate specialist skills related to science and/or engineering e.g. ‘T-Cell immunotherapy’, ‘Computer vision’, ‘Protein purification’ ‘Mechanical engineering’ ‘Synthetic biology’ ‘Robotics’ ‘Quantum computing’ etc.
