Assistant Director (Management Information Systems)

University of Bath - Computing Services

We have an exciting opportunity for an Information Systems leader to join the University of Bath's Department of Computing Services.

Ranked 5th in the UK’s universities and colleges by the Guardian University Guide 2018 and placed 12th for research excellence, the University of Bath is one of the UK’s leading universities with an international reputation for the quality of our research and teaching. Overlooking the UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath, it offers a welcoming, supportive and inspiring environment to work and to live.

This is a key role within the IS/IT Senior team. You will report to the Director of Computing Services and will have direct responsibility for the teams and technical strategy in a range of key areas, including: large corporate (eg Student Records, Finance, HR, Accommodation etc) and tactical systems; IT Security, Project & Programme Management, Software Licensing, Business Continuity, as well as the provision of business information. Additionally, you will take on cross-team responsibilities for best practice development.

You will have built upon your degree and relevant post-graduate qualification (or equivalent experience) with recognised qualifications and/or abilities in IS technical management and leadership, drawing upon your ITIL or similar service management experience.

Ideally possessing multi-discipline management experience, you will be comfortable taking a strategic lead with on-going, novel and developmental Information Systems programmes. Prior experience gained within the Higher Education sector would be an advantage too.

Your Business Process Redesign and Change Management skills will be in constant demand, especially when leading multiple teams of technical specialists – analysts, programmers, licence and security specialists. The University operates within a complex legal and procedural framework and you will be expected to lead best practice by example.

Using your excellent written and spoken communication skills, together with strategic and situation awareness and a business focus, it will often be necessary to act as the conduit between Senior Managers in the University and your technical colleagues, sometimes as the ultimate arbiter when business priority is in conflict with technical practicality.

We are committed to personal and professional development and in addition we offer a range of generous employee benefits. These inlcude an employer pension contribution of 18%, 39 days holiday (including annual leave, discretionary days and bank holidays), on-site parking and a flexible working environment.

If you believe you have the necessary skills and experience we require, we would like to hear from you. For an informal discussion about this role, please contact Victoria Evans, PA to the Director of Computing Services (v.l.evans@bath.ac.uk or 01225 386040).
