Liverpool Hope University

Salary: Grade 10 (Professor) £58,655 to £60,410 per annum/Grade 9 (Associate Professor) £49,149 to £56,950 per annum

Liverpool Hope University is a vibrant community with high scholarly standards. We are proud of our past, confident in our present and ambitious for our future. Research is central to our curriculum development and enhancement and all academic staff at the University engage in research. We submitted 54% of our academic staff for the 2014 REF and are strengthening even further our research degree programme (PhD and EdD) following the award of RDAP. This developing research expertise builds upon and complements our already well established reputation for excellence in teaching and learning. Our policy is to combine these elements of our work in keeping with the University’s stated academic profile as a research-informed, teaching led University of distinction. It is in this context that we now seek scholars in a number of areas who will join with us in pursuit of excellence; these opportunities include the post of:

Professor/Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Psychology

We are looking for a candidate with an outstanding reputation to inspire, motivate and lead colleagues in their research and teaching. The appointed candidate will have an excellent research record at an international level and be able to lead the further development of a strong research culture within the Faculty, which will include guiding and promoting the research of others.

The appointee is expected to work with the Dean and other senior colleagues in the Faculty of Science to determine and implement strategic development of the subject. We would welcome applicants with experience to develop and enhance subject provision at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The appointee will also be expected to work with the rest of the Faculty on developing external links through curriculum, enterprise activity, widening participation activities and summer schools.

The person appointed to this post will need to have an academic profile sufficient to enable them to hold the title of Professor/Associate Professor at the University.  The appointee will have an earned doctorate and in all cases be demonstrably research active at the highest level (for example by having been included in the 2014 REF Exercise, UK or equivalent with at least 3* and some 4* work).  We are particularly looking for a candidate with research expertise in Cognitive Neuroscience and Experimental Psychology areas with an established track record of attracting research funding. It is a general requirement at Hope that both in terms of the quantity and quality of their work Professors/Associate Professors can be entered into the forthcoming Research Excellence Framework with the reasonable expectation that their outputs would be at the 3* level at least with clear evidence of some 4* work (using the 2014 REF descriptors).

For an application form and further details, please visit our website or contact us using the details below.

The Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor Atulya Nagar, is available for confidential discussion about the post and the Faculty. You are welcome to contact him on nagara@hope.ac.uk

The post is a permanent one (subject to a 12 month probationary period) and we are looking for an early start date in 2017/18 academic year.
