Research Assistant

York Health Economics Consortium

York Health Economics Consortium (YHEC) is looking to recruit a Research Assistant to work on a range of research and consultancy projects within the Information Services sector of the company. YHEC is a health economics contract research and consulting company owned by, and based at, the University of York. YHEC provides consultancy and research to a wide range of public and private sector bodies. Our clients include:

  • Government bodies, such as the Department of Health;
  • NICE and the SMC;
  • Global pharmaceutical manufacturers;
  • Medical device and biotech companies.

The main purpose of this role is to provide research assistance and administrative support on all projects undertaken by an Associate Director. The role will also support a team of research staff working with the Associate Director. The post holder will work closely with another Research Assistant and a Project Assistant, and will be part of a team of 6 Research Assistants. This post will report to the Associate Director- Information Services of YHEC.

The main responsibilities of a Research Assistant are:

  • Background research/collation of information for projects/proposals;
  • First draft of proposals, protocols and reports;
  • Checking of data and occasional data analysis;
  • Acquisition of documents, via internet, library or inter-library loans;
  • Selecting records resulting from literature searches, against specific criteria;
  • Literature reviewing;
  • Endnote library (bibliographic software) development/maintenance;
  • Classification of studies;
  • Checking and formatting bibliographic references;
  • Complete, professional administration of individual projects;
  • Pro-active management of projects using Trello project management software and other software. This will include project monitoring, e.g. ensuring minimal slippage, flagging up deadlines to team etc.;
  • Maintenance of electronic data/records for projects;
  • Communication/liaison via phone or email with staff and clients;
  • Scheduling (and attending where necessary) project meetings;
  • Typing or formatting of all project and related documentation;
  • Assisting with website and wiki management;
  • Collation of costings;
  • Supervision of junior administrative/support staff including the Project Assistant on specific projects.

The basic salary will be in the range £18,000 to £24,000 subject to qualifications and experience. There is a performance-related pay scheme in operation at YHEC. The post holder will be eligible to join the YHEC Group pension scheme. Annual leave entitlement will be 30 days per year.
