Newcastle University - Faculty of Medical Sciences

Institute of Cellular Medicine

We are looking for a highly motivated research technician to join our transplant regenerative medicine team with focus on diabetes. This opportunity is in an exciting environment including a cutting-edge human islet isolation laboratory.

You will provide both general and specialised technical support for islet isolation. We are particularly focused on improving and optimizing islet isolation methods to yield higher quality islets for translational research within the Regenerative Medicine for Diabetes Group and ultimately for translation within the UK Islet Transplant Consortium and internationally. You will also support a new human tissue banking project by processing biopsies with the team and help with lab maintenance.

You must have a BSc in a relevant subject with technical experience in working according to Standard Operating Procedures. Experience in bioprocessing and ideally in specialised human islet isolation is required. Good practical knowledge of aseptic cell culture techniques, willingness to work with human tissue within a tight regulatory framework, willingness to work flexibly and excellent organisational skills are essential.

This post is fixed term for a duration of 2 years.
