You are invited to apply for the post of Laboratory Technical Assistant to work as part of the technical team supporting the laboratory infrastructure of Biological Sciences. This role does not actively involve participating in research.

Following an initial period of appropriate training and using established protocols and procedures, the candidate will be able to assist in the cleaning and maintenance of laboratory areas and facilities, including the collection and disposal of laboratory waste in accordance with University and School waste management policies, cleaning and sterilising of lab ware, and assist with the delivery and restocking of the laboratory consumables store.

They will gain an appreciation of the hazards, both biological and chemical, that can exist within a laboratory setting. The candidate must have a willingness to work with a variety of waste streams (chemical, biological, and recycling) and should be competent at using common computer packages and administrative systems.

The Biological Sciences technical team is an adaptable, proactive, and hardworking team and the ideal candidate should have a good range of soft skills that will upkeep the team’s work ethic, a keen eye for accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail.

The technical team is busy all year but especially during semesters, and you are discouraged from taking annual leave during this time.
