Research Associate and Network Co-ordinator The Nahrein Network: New Ancient History Research for Education in Iraq and its Neighbours aims to significantly develop the capacity of Middle Eastern universities, museums, archives and cultural heritage sites to foster cultural and economic growth in the region. It is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council from 01 October 2017 to 30 September 2021. The core Network team is split over three sites: the Principal Investigator Professor Eleanor Robson, a Research Associate and a 0.50 FTE Project Administrator at UCL; Co-Investigator Dr Saad Eskander and a 0.50 FTE Project Administrator at the University of Kurdistan Hewler (Erbil); and Co-Investigator Dr Paul Collins at the Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford.

The Research Associate will be based in London but also work in the Middle East for short periods of time, several times a year. S/he will split time roughly evenly between two main roles: a) conducting and publishing original academic research on one or more topics related to the main aims of the Network; b) co-ordinating and delivering collaborative events and outputs for the Network, in conjunction with other members of the Core Team.

This post is funded for 48 months in the first instance

Applicants must have a completed PhD on a related subject. The successful candidate will have a knowledge of and interest in the ancient or modern history of the Middle East, and/or sustainable development in the region
