To deliver its top 20 ambition Swansea University is seeking to appoint a Lecturer with excellence in teaching and scholarship, to join the newly formed Department of Applied Linguistics at Swansea University. The post-holder will work alongside a team of scholars with a reputation for excellence in research and scholarship, whose disciplinary reach extends across a broad range of applied linguistics topics. Our new applied linguistics research laboratory, close collaborations with colleagues in other disciplines, Swansea’s commitment to teaching excellence, and the bilingual UK context in which we work, offer a dynamic and motivated scholar the intellectual space in which to demonstrate and grow their academic profile.

This post requires a contribution to teaching and research supervision in the field of applied linguistics at undergraduate and postgraduate level, with the post-holder taking a lead role on three modules. The post requires a commitment to enhancing the overall student experience, and to participating in the development of departmental strategies, actions and events in connection with this.

Essential Criteria

  • A PhD in Applied Linguistics or a closely related area (awarded or submitted).
  • Subject knowledge appropriate to delivery of undergraduate modules in discourse analysis, pragmatics, media language, and other thematic areas of the Department’s teaching provision.
  • Proven ability to design, deliver and adapt own teaching using appropriate style/method to meet the identified learning objectives across the subject area.
  • Evidence of inspiring students and of enhancing the learning experience.
  • Awareness of current research in the field and/or current practice within the relevant subject areas
  • Evidence of having produced and disseminated own research in areas relevant to undergraduate and postgraduate provision in the Department of Applied Linguistics at Swansea.
  • Evidence of an ability to make applications for resources necessary to underpin research and scholarly activity.
  • Proven ability to implement innovative practice in teaching delivery.
  • Evidence of a commitment to continuing professional development.
  • Evidence of the ability to contribute to a working group in an area of activity such as recruitment or employability etc.
