Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have an established background in food structure, digestion and health? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive universities?

We are looking for a Research Fellow to join the research group of Professor Alan Mackie, supporting their work in in determining the role of multiscale structures on the kinetics and pathways of nutrient release. In many food related non-communicable diseases, risk is associated with repeated high levels of systemic exposure to specific components such as monosaccharides and fatty acids, and the research group have a particular interest in gastric phase behaviour, mucosal interactions and the role of bile.

As part of this programme of investigation, you will undertake quantitative analysis of digesta produced using in vitro simulations of the upper gastrointestinal tract, and will also investigate the role of dietary fibre in the altering the bioaccessibility of nutrients, in collaboration with our Faculties of Biological Sciences and Medicine and Health.

You will have a PhD in biochemistry or a closely allied discipline, alongside experience of working in analytical chemistry in a multidisciplinary research environment. You will also have the ability to conduct independent research, with a developing track record of publications. In addition, you’ll have good communication and planning skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
