About The Role

We now have an excellent opportunity for a talented Commercialisation Manager, responsible for delivering the commercialisation of scientific and engineering breakthroughs from the laboratories at STFC.

Your role will be to identify opportunities, determine the strength of technology, understand the market demand for products or services and find personnel and funding to bring the technology to a market ready status. You will be accountable for the management of a portfolio of projects with a focus on physical sciences. 

You will work with researchers and scientists within STFC to determine the best way to commercialise new technology and translate potential opportunities into business cases for exploitation through licence or spin-out.  You will seek out new ideas and technologies from within STFC, carry out market research and commercial assessments, secure development funding, protect intellectual property, develop and execute business plans for technology exploitation and manage licence obligations.

You will need to build good relationships across STFC, academia, industry and financiers, and be able to negotiate licence deals and secure investment.

This role plays a key part in delivering STFC’s innovation and impact agenda and will work as part of our well-established Innovation Team.  You will also manage an Innovation Analyst.

About You

We are looking for an individual with enthusiasm for commercialisation and a passion for business.  You will need to demonstrate commercial aptitude, integrity, vision, versatility, creativity and perseverance! 

A degree in a relevant scientific or engineering field or a strong technical background is essential to this role.  Qualifications in business or marketing are advantageous.    

You should have experience in taking technology innovation to market in a commercial or research environment.  You may be RTTP certified. You will have an understanding of intellectual property rights and proven skills in managing multiple projects.

You will show excellent communication skills, the capability to build and sustain strategic relationships and the ability to grow your network within and outside of the organisation.
